Splunk Senior Staff Technical Writer - IT Markets in San Francisco, California

We're looking for a versatile technical writer to join the Splunk doc team to work on Splunk Insights products, including Splunk Insights for Infrastructure. You'll document analytics-driven IT Operations tools that unify metrics and logs for troubleshooting and monitoring. Be part of a fast-moving team where your contributions really make a difference in our customers' experience.

We are big fans of describing the how, why, and who of an application, not just what the software can do. As a writer documenting Insights, you'll identify common customer scenarios and show end users and administrators how to tackle specific problems. You'll use feedback from the field and from actual people using your product to continuously improve your docs. You'll work side-by-side with the product team to create and maintain online user documentation in a custom MediaWiki instance, where you can update your content on the fly with improvements and new features.

You are a confident writer of customer-centered docs who is passionate about helping people solve problems. You're thrilled about joining a team of supportive, diverse tech writers and editors, and you're prepared to tell us stories that demonstrate how you learn about new technologies, apply that learning on the job, and make an impact inside and outside your company.

Responsibilities

  • Write user docs that make using complex products easy for end users and administrators

  • Work closely with development teams and product managers to understand your products and the people who use them

  • Be willing and excited to become an authority in the Splunk platform and apps

  • Propose structural and organizational improvements to the documentation set

  • Help pave the way for content based on use cases and customer scenarios

  • Passionately pursue information that your customers need to be successful

Requirements

  • Interest in researching and writing excellent software documentation that customers rave about

  • Ability to organize complex information into a structure and flow that's accessible to system administrators and end users

  • Demonstrable experience writing docs with a strong customer focus

  • Understanding of the difference between reference documentation and scenario-based documentation

  • BA/BS degree and relevant professional experience
